Cognos TM1 10.2 Upgrade, Consider this.
We are currently assisting a client with an Cognos TM1 10.2 Upgrade from 10.1 and we are finding a few nuances that we feel need to be clearly called out to anyone considering upgrading to TM1 10.2. There are some great enhancements in this version but there are also some fundamental changes regarding how some things work
Cognos TM1 10.2 Upgrade Checklist
1. Websheets in TM1 Web or TM1 Application
Websheets have no switched to a Java based based web application server which will allow client-side rendering and create less network traffic which should allow them to render more quickly. From our testing all previously created websheets when run from perspectives continue to operate as designed (Perspectives isn’t utilizing the new Java functionality); however when deployed on TM1 Web or TM1 application they don’t always operate as designed. For example, we have a few websheets with DBSW functions used extensively in there and those functions can no longer send data back to TM1. IBM is acknowledged some defects with their websheets and will need to have this resolved in a hotfix or a fixpack. See the TM1 New Features Guide for more information on the Java based web application server and other features available after a Cognos TM1 10.2 upgrade.
2. Cognos TM1 Application (Contributor)
Perhaps the most significant change we have seen those far is the way TM1 Application handles workflow security. In previous versions security on a workflow dimension was managed through element level security. With the release of 10.2 you can now have multiple applications using the same workflow dimension. To accommodate for this security is now controlled through Cell Level Security on the workflow dimension, not element level security. If you have a pre-existing cell level security cube on a cube deployed in your TM1 application, a Cognos TM1 10.2 upgrade will automatically add the following snipet of code to the .rux file:
As this code is placed at the top of your rule file it will trump any other pre-existing rules in this file. To resolve this situation you will need to move this code down to the bottom of your rule file and then update your cell security rules to ensure they are working as intended. We have found that in every instance we have had to modify our pre-existing cell security rules to ensure they work appropriately.
For more information on this see the following document released by IBM on “TM1 Application Deployment and Cell Level Security”.
